I Joined the British Embassy’s Women Empowerment Program

I am delighted to share that I have been accepted & joined the EMPOWER 2024/25 programme by British Embassy Seoul!

What is EMPOWER?

EMPOWER is a prestigious personal and professional development program for businesswomen in Korea. It is organized by the British Embassy Seoul and British Chamber of Commerce in Korea (BCCK), in partnership with leading businesses and organizations.​
The Programme is designed for businesswomen in Korea to develop the skills, confidence, networks and knowledge to achieve their career aspirations.​ 

Over the coming year I will participate in monthly activities & opportunities to learn from inspiring female leaders and top British companies. I will gain insights into a wide range of business sectors, grow my networks, and develop the skills for success. 

During the program, we will not only visit companies, attend business workshops, and meet with politicians, but we will also be invited to various events hosted by the British Embassy and UN Women.

This year, out of 73 applicants, 18 were selected for the second cohort following the first cohort of 14 members last year.

Why I’ve Joined

Talking to others, I found that most of the people learned about this program from their manager or HR because they work in companies that are partnered with BCCK(British Chamber of Commerce in Korea). I was one of the few lucky ones since I got to learn about this event on Linkedin cuz someone shared it. (Lesson here: check out LinkedIn.)

Three things I want to get out of this program. First, I could really use a sense of belonging and networking since I’m not in a big company anymore. Networking with women working in Korea will be valuable. Second, I’ve always been very interested in the topic of women empowerment – looking forward to define and develop it in real life. Third, I’d be able to explore business opportunities since I’ll be visiting many multi-national companies and participating in their workshops.

I was quite surprised to learn how great this program is! (Especially considering I filled out the Google form rather casually at a café on the last day of the application period..) It’s going to be an amazing opportunity, I can tell.
